Projection TV Lamps

Projection TV lamps and replacement bulbs for DLP and other projector models must be long lasting and bright.

When you have a rear projection television set, you’ll notice that over time the picture quality will degrade, and your images won’t appear as exciting and vibrant as they once were.  This is usually due to the brightness of your projection TV lamps growing dull over time.  Just like any other type of light bulb, a lamp will burn out eventually, even though they are made to last for years.  This means, during the course of your television’s life, you’ll be required to either install new projection TV lamps, or buy a new TV outright, in order to maintain perfect picture.

Rear projection televisions feature a special type of operation in which your picture is literally run through an internal projector.  This projector requires a lamp, so that the image can be magnified and displayed on your TV screen.  For this, projection TV lamps become necessary to get the job done.  These are essentially special light bulbs that are capable of shining very brightly to display a picture.  Plus, they also last a lot longer than standard bulbs, and good projection TV lamps should be able to last you years of successful operation before you see a problem.  However, no matter how good your lamp is, replacement will become necessary.

The first step to successfully replacing your projection TV lamps, is simply buying a new bulb itself.  The best way to do that is refer to the television owner’s manual to see the types that will work with your television.  This is important, as just like standard light bulbs, projection TV lamps have sizes as well as different watt allotments, and you need to find one that’s compatible with your television in order to produce the high quality picture that you demand.  If you can’t find this information in a manual, you should be able to find what you need written on the lamp itself, once you remove it from your television.

Another thing to consider is the amount of use that you can expect to get out of your projection TV lamps.  Some lamps offer extremely long lives, so that you don’t have to worry about changing them for some time.  While others will burn out after moderate use, but will be cheaper to buy in the first place.  Really it’s down to your personal preference, but usually you save more money from a long lasting bulb that you could from a cheaper lamp.  While projection TV lamps can be expensive, within the $300 to $500 territory, don’t be afraid to make a sound investment into the quality of your TV picture.

When it comes to buying projection TV lamps of any kind, you can find exactly what you need at any store that sells televisions.  Typically stores like Best Buy or Sears will have something suitable, and you should be able to replace your bulb no problem.  Usually most big stores will also offer professional installation if you don’t feel up to the task.  Just remember also, to stick with top projection TV lamps manufacturers like Sony and Philips, so that you can guarantee the quality of your lamp.
